Design Ideas for Small Kitchens
Trying to make the most of your tiny kitchen? Small spaces can be challenging when you’re trying to cook, but if you know a few tricks, your small kitchen will work perfectly for you.
Add a Prep Cart
A rolling cart that you can store items on can be quite helpful when you can’t have a full island. These prep carts can be tucked out of the way when you aren’t using them, but when you need a bit of extra counter space, they’re quite useful. Many even come with a butcher block top for chopping vegetables. You may also use the carts to wheel drinks and food to the living room.
Choose Attractive Appliances
In a small kitchen, you’ll likely have most appliances out in plain view, as space to store things is limited. If this is the case, look for appliances that you can truly enjoy. There are many designs available and they can look amazing on the counter or shelf, providing that extra touch of décor for your tiny space.
Use Light Colours
Lighter colours will help make your kitchen feel larger, but you can absolutely mix and match dark with light. Lighter cupboards, for example, or those with glass fronts will give a more spacious feel to the room. If you opt for darker countertops or backsplashes, you can still add splashes of lighter colour to bring the brighter side of things forward.
Add Plenty of Lights
Natural light is best and will really make your kitchen feel spacious, but when you don’t have that, be sure you have more than enough artificial light. Bullseye lights under the upper cupboards will keep the counters lit up and make it easy to see what you’re doing on the stove.
Use Your Wall Space
It’s best to make full use of your wall space so you can reduce clutter on the actual countertops. Consider adding a pegboard to hang utensils on or put up a pot rail for all your pots. This is good incentive to purchase pots and pans that are attractive to look at, as well. Copper pots and wooden cutting boards look amazing when hung neatly on a pot rail. As a bonus, they’re within easy reach when you need them.
Choose a Sink with a Cover
Your sink takes up quite a bit of space in the kitchen and there are times when that space would be quite useful to have. When you use a sink cover, it gives you extra space for putting bowls, chopping food, and more. It’s a simple method of utilizing the space you have and making full use of every inch.
Just because your kitchen is small doesn’t mean it has to be an unpleasant space. With the right design, you can get just as much out of a small kitchen as you can a larger one.
