How to Choose a Kitchen Taps
All too often, people select their kitchen taps based on how it looks. While your faucet should look lovely and suit the design style of the space, there’s more to good taps than just a pretty face. You need to consider several factors when you select the right plumbing supplies for your kitchen.
One or More Handles?
Taps come with a few different options for handles. Some use a lever style handle on the faucet itself, while others use separate handles. The style needs to match your sink in most cases, so you need to select the faucet that offers a built-in handle if that’s all the space provided on the sink. Two handles will be required if the sink comes with three holes in it.
The style of handle is also important, as not everyone is comfortable turning or twisting. You may have mobility issues or pain in your hands, which means it’s easier to use a lever-style handle.
Spout Height
There’s very little more annoying than a kitchen faucet that doesn’t clear the sink enough. If you have dishes in the sink, you need the ability to move the faucet over them. You should also be able to fill a pot or pitcher within the sink and lift it out easily, without issue. Unfortunately, you may not realise until the faucet is installed that it’s too low, so take the time to check measurements and see what you will be happy with.
Additional Features
There are taps for every type of kitchen and some of these come with special features that may make your life easier. These include such features as:
Touch on/off: This allows you to bump the faucet anywhere with your elbow, wrist, etc. and turn the water on or off. If you are busy and have your hands full or if they’re quite messy and you don’t wish to cover the tap in dough.
Pull-down sprayer: A sprayer is quite useful for cleaning dishes and other items, but you will find that they may be mounted alongside the sink. If this is the case, it’s best to look for a faucet that includes the sprayer as part of the actual faucet so you simply pull it down to spray whatever you need.
LED lights: Do you need to see whether the water is hot or cold? A faucet with LED lights will glow red for hot and blue for cold, making it much easier to judge the temperature as you wash your hands or fill a pot.
Check the measurements for your faucet before you buy and consider talking to an expert. They’ll know exactly how to determine the best kitchen faucet for your needs.
