How to Create a Cottagecore Kitchen
Cottagecore is one of the hottest design trends of the moment and it’s infiltrated everything from fashion to home interiors. It’s tipped to become the biggest home décor trend for 2021, so how can you add some cottagecore style to your kitchen at home?
Cottagecore is rooted in the past, with a focus on nostalgia, nature and a homely, pastoral way of living. This doesn’t mean that you have to get rid of all your mod cons, but if you’ve always dreamed of living in an English country cottage or period farmhouse, see below to find out how you can achieve this aesthetic in your kitchen.
Cottagecore colour palette
The first place to start is your colour palette; avoid harsh monochrome or bright colours if you want to nail the cottagecore trend. Instead, look for soft pastels and neutral, earthy shades. You might want to stick to neutrals throughout, with warm-toned walls and furniture, or add colour by painting cabinets in pretty shades of pale pink, blue or green.
Vintage accessories
If you have any vintage crockery, china plates or decorative vases, now is the time to display them. An antique dresser or wooden shelving is perfect for showcasing your vintage pieces and collectibles. If you don’t have any china to display, look in charity or antique shops for floral patterned plates and mugs, or vintage kitchen items.
Patterned fabrics
Looking for fabric for your curtains or tablecloth? Choose dainty florals, stripes or gingham for that authentic cottagecore style. Don’t be afraid to mix and match patterns either; cottagecore is cosy, whimsical and homely, and you don’t want everything to look too coordinated.
Farmhouse furniture
A cottagecore kitchen isn’t complete without a traditional farmhouse table. These tables are characterised by their natural wood material and spindle legs or trestles. Many people want their table to have that ‘lived-in’ look so search antique or vintage shops, or look for a table that’s made from reclaimed wood.
Don’t worry if the chairs don’t match, as mentioned above, mix and match is all part of the cottagecore aesthetic. If you want to complete the look, install a square farmhouse-style sink with a deep basin. Stainless steel, cast iron and even concrete are increasingly popular materials, but choose white porcelain for the most traditional look.
