Four Storage Tips For Small Kitchens
Bells Kitchens & Bathrooms • April 28, 2020
The kitchen is often described as ‘the heart of the home’ and it’s easy to see why. Even if you’re not a master chef in the kitchen, it’s often the room we use to gather with family and friends, enjoy a relaxing meal or get ready for the day with a strong cup of coffee. However, not all of us are blessed with a large, open plan kitchen and it can be more difficult to cook or entertain if your kitchen is on the smaller side.
However, there are plenty of simple storage solutions and tricks which can help you maximise the space and ensure that your kitchen is stylish and practical, whatever it’s size. With this in mind, read on for just four storage solutions to make the most of a smaller kitchen.
Make the most of cabinet space
There’s a lot of untapped cabinet space that many of us aren’t using, so don’t restrict your storage to just the inside of your wall or floor cabinets. The tops of cabinets offer excellent storage space for larger pans, serving dishes or kitchen gadgets that are rarely used. You can use the exposed sides of cabinets too; add hooks or a rail to hang kitchen utensils or flat frying pans.
Streamline with shelves
If there’s less room for cabinets, make the most of your walls with smart shelving on any available wall space. Sturdy shelves are great for storing large or heavy pans, storage jars of dried food or any decorative crockery and vases. You can also save cupboard space by adding plates racks to walls or hooks for mugs.
Use your fridge
Don’t forget the tops and sides of your fridge for extra storage space, especially if you have a large freestanding fridge that’s taking up a lot of space. Use the top of the fridge to store cookbooks, jars of dried food or cereal boxes, add magnetic strips to the side for knives and magnetic racks for spice jars.
Ceiling storage
It might be something you associate with a professional restaurant kitchen, but you can hang pots and pans from ceiling hooks to save space in your own domestic kitchen, too. If you’ve got enough space above your head, fix a circle hanger high up on the wall, or you could even add a ‘floating shelf’ suspended on cables for extra storage.
