The Best Kitchen Features for Avid Home Cooks & Bakers
If you’re a keen baker or home cook, then we imagine your kitchen is one of your favourite rooms in the house - not to mention one that you are very particular about the design of. The layout of your kitchen can be a very personal thing, especially if you get a lot of use out of it and want to meet both your practical and aesthetic needs.
If you’re thinking of undertaking a kitchen renovation to truly make it ideal for your cooking or baking habits, then keep reading our blog below as we list some of the top features we think you’d greatly benefit from using in your kitchen design.
Granite or Quartz Countertops
In our opinion, natural stone countertops look great in any kitchen. Not only are they extremely durable, but they have a rich elegance about them that really elevates the appearance of your traditional or modern kitchen. On top of looking luxurious and professional, they also have some practical benefits.
Firstly, granite and quartz both maintain an ambient, cool temperature - making it a great surface to work on when you need to keep things cold, for example if you ever need to roll out pastry. Similarly, they are also great thermal conductors, so if you ever have something hot that you need to cool down quickly before adding it to something else, then leaving it on your granite countertop will help it to cool down quicker.
Granite is also heat resistant, meaning you can place hot pans on your countertop without worrying about causing damage - though it is still recommended to use a trivet to avoid damage over time. Trivets are always recommended for quartz, since it is a blend of natural quartz and resin and will be damaged by excessive heat, though this does make it a slightly more affordable countertop material than granite.
Boiling Water Taps
Have you ever been cooking a meal that requires multiple foods to be boiling away at the same time? If so, then you’ll likely understand the frustration of having to wait for the kettle to boil more than once to be able to fill up all your pots ready to boil on the hob.
If this is a situation that you find yourself in all too often, then a boiling water tap could be a game changing feature in your kitchen. As the name suggests, this allows you to dispense boiling water directly from the tap, rather than having to wait for your water to boil in the kettle.
They’re also great for enjoying an instant cuppa while you’re waiting for something to bake in the oven!
Warming Drawers
The last thing we think should feature in your kitchen is a warming drawer. Warming drawers are drawers that are temperature controlled and can usually be set to a precise temperature between 30℃ and 80℃. They can be used for various purposes, such as keeping plates warm ready for food to be served on, keeping food warm before it is ready to be served or even for proving bread.
